I love this photograph of my Aunt Sarah who was born on 20 May 1921. She was named after her maternal grandmother, Sarah Helferty. I remember visiting her with my son shortly after he was born and we were talking about middle names. She was laughing telling me about her “terrible” middle name. At that time I’d never heard the name Helferty.

Sarah was born in Newmains and I assume that in the photo she is outside the family home in Main Street. I wonder who took the picture.

In 1948 Sarah married Daniel Wright. The marriage took place at St Brigid’s Church in Newmains. Such a lovely couple!

Sarah died on 17 September 2007. I miss her. I think she would’ve enjoyed hearing about our family history.
